Galerie Mourlot is pleased to announce the new exhibition by Ghazal Sotoudeh, Notes From Afghanistan.
Born during the winter
of 1981 in Tehran, Ghazal fled her country of birth at the moment when her
father lost his life. Her arrival in France was an accident, which nevertheless
offered her passion for words and for the piano a place of refuge.
She studied for 20
years under the guidance of Madame A. Portorab, exceptional student of Madame
Picht-Axenfeld, among the finest interpreters of Chopin.
Having completed her
law studies in Paris, a collaboration with the photo-journalist Reza led her
passion for writing to find an ally in the medium of photography. The image,
the word, and the music at the service of the trace, of the past and of the
present.
Two years spent in
Afghanistan as a humanitarian worker, Ghazal attempts through poems and images
to give voice to her encounters. Twenty portraits of civilians tell of their
country, their hopes, their wars and their smiles. Through these photos Ghazal
hopes to remind us of the fact: Afghanistan is the country of the Afghans, not
of the Taliban.
The exhibition will continue through July 14, 2011.
