Galerie Mourlot is pleased to announce the new exhibition by French
artist Fabrice Fanjoux.
Fabrice’s artistic exploration began in 1979 when he left home to work
in a sign studio in Paris. Without knowing Robert Indiana or Roy Lichtenstein
he sensed a beauty in the design and colors of the billboards and the potential
for an artistic language.
In the early 80’s he settled into Auvergne and took three years of
classes in drawing at the School of Fine Arts and a year of training in
carpentry, he then worked as a decorator for 6 years. Around 1987 Fabrice began
to sculpt and found a natural connection with the marble and stone.
Under the influence of Anne Calaguig, he raised awareness of pictorial
expression from modern and contemporary artists such as Jackson Pollock, Cy
Twombly, Sam Francis and Giacometti. The latter encouraged Fabrice to develop a
gestural and bulky modeling.
In 1997 Fabrice returned to Paris, as a result of his cumulative
experiences he created luminous sculptures with full and tense forms that
remain a guideline for his artistic work.
As reflected in this exhibitions
body of work Fabrice has delved into the founding texts of Hinduism and
practices Yoga, this meeting is materialized through his sculpture and the
emergence of a generic form. “The multiple shapes used in my work, organic in
appearance, reflect the universe through symbolism. It is a search for an
essential design that would virtually contain all other shapes within.”
